Some thoughts on where Music has taken me, both in Body and Mind.

As I was sitting down to do some desk work yesterday on the evening I returned from performing a private wedding event up in the Catskills Mountains in Big Indian, NY, I had a lot of thoughts on my mind and felt the need to write them out.  I was able to, and wanted to share them all with you here:

On my way to the venue, I passed through Woodstock, and saw the sign for the Levon Helm Memorial Highway, which was dedicated to him shortly after he had passed away. When I got to the venue in Big Indian, I couldn't help but be taken back by the beauty and peace of mind I was able to gather deep in the mountain ranges of Upstate NY. I thought to myself that this was probably the same thoughts that the members of The Band had when they holed up in Big Pink with Bob Dylan over in Saugherties in the late 60's to create some of the most iconic recordings in Rock history. Levon included.

Part of my setlist for the cocktail hour I performed was "Atlantic City" (penned by Bruce Springsteen) and "I Shall Be Released" (penned by Bob Dylan). These are both songs that The Band had recorded, and Levon sang lead on the recording for "Atlantic City". I happened to sing both back to back during my set because I did them both in the key of A with the capo on the second fret, so it made sense in terms of keeping tuning changes to a minimum. When I was half way through singing "I Shall Be Released", I realized the connection of both songs as I stared right into a line of trees that seemed limitless in their reach up into the uninterrupted blue sky.

I got lost in those thoughts, and got taken back to a time when I went to one of the Midnight Rambles at Levon's barn (back in 2010 or so) shortly after he had returned from treatment for his throat cancer. I sat in a seat that was so close to him, that I was able to rest the edge of my feet on his drum riser and hear the crack of his snare right in my ear. He didn't sing much because of his illness (he sang a few verses here and there) but his joyous spirit filled the whole room. There was an announcement before the show that Levon would not be signing autographs or anything of the like afterward, but I got up at the end of that show and called over to him a few feet from me to say, "Thank you for the music, Levon!" And he put his hand out to me to shake it and replied in his signature Southern rhasp, "Thank you, son!" A few years later, Levon passed away due to the complications from his illness, but we all thankfully still have the music he created, and I'll never forget that special moment I had at "The Barn".

As I re-centered my thoughts and came back to where I was, staring at the lyrics of "I Shall Be Released" on the page in front of me, I couldn't help but feel a bit emotional but made sure I kept my voice from cracking as there was a job to be done and people to entertain. I suppose the whole point of me sharing this anecdote is that Music is a wonderful thing that can take us places both mentally and physically. I'm so grateful for the musical experiences I've had in my life thus far as without them, I'd be a shell of the person I am today. I hope they never end, and I wish everyone else out there the chance to come across some magical, musical moments in their lives as well.

If you're looking to download a digital version of the album, you can head on over to my Bandcamp page or over at CD Baby and snag it for the special limited Holiday price of $5.

The Party Guest turns One Month Old + Other Cool News & Shows!

Hey erryone,

Today is November 23rd, and marks one full month since The Party Guest was officially released.  The release show at The Patchogue Theater For The Performing Arts with my buddies Butchers Blind & Mick Hargreaves was a great success.  I've been keeping the ball rolling by playing a lot of cool shows, going to see some cool shows and spreading the word, and all of the other cool work that comes along with being an independent singer/songwriter.  If you haven't picked up a copy of the album, physical or digital, there's still plenty to go around.  I always have copies for sale at shows, and a fancy Sharpie if you'd like it personalized!  Also, the album is available at CD Baby in both physical and digital formats, at my Bandcamp page as high-end digital files, and over at iTunes digitally for you folks who enjoy Apples.

The CD is also available at a fantastic coffee shop that's close to my home base, Tend Coffee.  Tend is located in Shirley, NY and they serve 100% certified organic coffees that are roasted on the premises.  They're a great small independent local business who also happens to support other independent locals, and that I can surely dig.  Be sure to stop in Tend if you're ever in the area, and to keep an eye out for The Party Guest in other brick and mortar stores soon.

As I mentioned the album will be available at shows, and I've got some cool ones coming up this Thanksgiving Weekend:

Friday Nov. 28th at C'est Cheese - Port Jefferson, NY - 7pm
Saturday Nov. 29th at Hoptron Brewtique - Patchogue, NY - 2pm
Sunday Nov. 30th at Tend Coffee w/ special guest Joyce Sobanski - Shirley, NY - 3pm

As always, thank you for your support and for spreading the word!  I'll see ya'll soon at a show or sometime soon enough down the road!

Bryan Gallo's debut album The Party Guest has arrived!

Hey erryone!

Today is the day that I thought would never come, but it's officially here!  My debut album, The Party Guest, is now officially released!

I'll be celebrating with a release show at The Patchogue Theater's Live In The Lobby series tonight with PLENTY of physical CD copies for sale along with cool T-Shirts as well!  I'll be backed by Butchers Blind, who served as the backing band on the entirety of the album.  Also appearing and performing is Chris J. Connolly who is currently support his single "Million Colours" from his very own soon to be released debut album.

(The Danelectro 12 String pictured here will not be available for sale at the release show, but will be available to hear as I'll be "plugging in" for the first time in several years.  Prepare yourself for some jingle-Jangle!)

For those of you who can't make it to the show to purchase a hot-off-the-presses CD, you can find the album for sale over at my Bandcamp page or for you Apple fanatics it seems as if it's already gone live on iTunes as well!  I'm still trying to figure out when and where it should be for sale in a physical medium via CD Baby & Amazon (should be pretty soon) but if you'd really like to get your hands on a CD copy and are not able to attend the release show or won't be at a performance of mine in the near future, feel free to send me an E-mail via this webpage and we'll make it happen!

I'm so excited to be able to share these 11 songs with you all.  This album has literally been years in the making, and Pete Mancini (of Butchers Blind) did a great job producing the album & Mick Hargreaves did an awesome job capturing our sounds via his Lantern Sound Recording Rig.  If you like what you hear, please be sure to spread the word and tell a friend or two.  I'm an independent artist without a record label, so the support from great people such as yourselves is priceless and highly appreciated.

Thank you so much, and happy listening!

-Bryan

Check it out! "Karma" Digital Maxi-Single Now Available on Bandcamp!

Howdy all,

I had a few people asking me if there'd be a sneak peak of some of the tunes from The Party Guest before it's released on October 23, so my answer to you is.. "You betchya!"  Take a look at this:

That's the art to the Digital Maxi-Single of "Karma", one of the eleven songs that will appear on The Party Guest. You can preview Karma by going to www.bryangallo.bandcamp.com and give it a whirl.  If you decide you like it a whole bunch, you can download it as a "Name Your Own Price" single (all amounts are acceptable, even $0.00 in case you're a little strapped for cash) and then take it on the road in your iPod, laptop, or heck, be so 2002 and burn yourself a CD of it!  Included with the download are two live tracks: "Waitress On Call" & "Karma", both from a show I did at Soul Sounds Inc. Record Shop in Sayville, NY this past June.  You can only hear those tracks by downloading the single, so be sure to check those out!

... Also, there will be a few radio appearances I'll have before the release show (On Jerry Schaefer's Graveyard Blues on Sunday Oct 12th via WRCN & Tom Ryan's , American Hit Radio thru WHPC on Wed Oct 15th) and I plan on playing some cuts from the album then, so if you want to hear MORE of The Party Guest, be sure to keep an eye out for those radio spots coming up in the next week or two. (More info can be found in the "Shows" section here on the .com)

As always, any help from listeners like you is appreciated, so please feel free to spread the word and share the Bandcamp page for the Karma Maxi-Single with others.

Keep it tuned here and at www.facebook.com/bryangallomuzak for all the latest updates!

Stay classy peeps,

Exciting News! Album Art for The Party Guest Revealed + Other Release Info

Hey all you cool peeps out there!

I'm excited to unveil to the whole World Wide Web, the cover art for my debut album, The Party Guest:

... We took the photo at the Brick House Brewery's "Shand's Loft" in Patchouge, NY which is the cozy upstairs room used for catering and special events.  That evening, Anthony Comesso's first proper Art Show was in full swing, and I figured it'd be a perfect opportunity to capture a cover image for the upcoming album.  The Brick House & I happen to have a lot of history... I got my start as a solo artist by playing their Wednesday night open mic regularly, and since have landed several gigs I was glad to call my own (including one with Butchers Blind backing me this past Spring). Also, for anyone in the know, this is the exact spot where my infamous Birthday Roast took place a few years ago.  That big ol' mug on the cover (the one with the beer in it, not my serious face) is my BHB Mug Club glass... So it's pretty obvious that the BHB is one of my regular hangs.  There's always great craft brews on tap (made in house) and a regular cast of friendly faces.

As you can see from this photo, the BHB is pretty receptive and open to housing original art and music.  There were several shots taken upstairs that evening by the incomparable photog Fred Langstaff and this is the one we ultimately decided to go with.  Included (simply per chance) are several musician friends I know from the local scene and some other friends I've gotten to meet via my gigs and just hanging out on Main St. in the ol' P-Haug.  The photo seemed like the perfect fit for the theme of the album, along as a way to pay homage to those who helped me get to where I'm at today.  Finishing touches were added by the Jack-of-all-trades Mick Hargreaves with the text layout and just a sprinklin' of some magic dust.  (Mick also happened to design the rest of the CD art layout, recorded and mixed the album, and worked tirelessly to help make this album happen.)

... I shared the art today via my Facebook page and my Instagram account, and the response was overwhelming.  It's great to know there's folks out there still rooting for independent artists, and without your support I know I couldn't be where I'm at today.  The album will be released officially on Thursday October 23rd, with a release show at The Patchogue Theater in Patchogue NY.
I'll be backed by Butchers Blind (who served as the backing band on the album) and also billed for the show is the talented Singer/Songwriter & good friend of mine Chris J. Connolly (www.chrisjconnolly.com) who has an album of his own coming out very soon.

We all hope to see you there on Oct. 23rd.. But until then, be sure to keep an eye out for further updates here and over at www.facebook.com/bryangallomuzak ... Some more surprises are in store soon enough!

Take it easy erryone,
-Bryan
