Destined To Never

You smelled like peppermint and cigarette smoke
on a bitter cold Winter's evening
Your eyes were shades of dark blue and gray
that made me decide against leaving

So I stayed until the daybreak sun
diminished like a fading ember
but the sheets lost their heat from the night before
now you're just somebody to remember

You're no longer here, and I am stuck somewhere
between the dreams that have already passed
and the things that are destined to never

This bedroom with the bottles that are all strewn about
only prove what you've done to me
there are no scars tattooed on my wrists,
but the pain is plain to see

So I go to the phone to call up your home
I want to feed you a piece of my mind
but the voice I hear's the operator unclear
telling me there's a disconnected line

You're no longer here, and I am stuck somewhere
between the dreams that have already passed,
and the things that'll never change time

So I'd like to say that the glass is half full
a little sunshine could make me feel better
but darkness will come and optimism
can't make every glass last forever

You're no longer here, and I am stuck somewhere
between the dreams that have already passed
and the things that are destined to never
between the dreams that have already passed
and the things that are destined to never
